About Me – Rob Nicol

I specialise in high-end Photoshop retouching and prepress imaging – and achieve the very best results in both.

After starting my own company in London, I moved to New Zealand in the 80's and was one of few Transparency Retouchers around, and then moved to Sydney.  Whilst managing a team of Retouchers for Face Lab, I added retouching on the Quantel Paintbox to my skills, tutored by an expert from London.

I returned to New Zealand just as Photoshop was born and whilst learning Photoshop, I did Cibachrome printing, photography and some retouching. This gave me the opportunity to meet many more Auckland photographers – many winning top awards in their field with my retouching help.

Photoshop then took my work over full time and I did work for New Zealand's top advertising agencies, including Saatchi and Saatchi, Colenso, Young and Rubicam, Ogilvy & Mather, DDB&N and many others. It has been a pleasure to pass my knowledge on to my Photoshop students over the years and to see the progress they have made in their work.

In previous years I have also worked for agencies in London, New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid and Australia. For many years now, as well as working with top photographers and agencies, I have worked with New Zealand's top bridal magazine, Bride and Groom, retouching images and doing the pre-press work for more than 20 years.

I provide my services to advertising agencies, magazines, professional photographers and amateur photographers alike. 

Maybe you own a photograph that isn't quite right and need my help to restore or improve. Samples of my work will show that I work to a very high standard – always endeavouring to give my clients the very best results.

My specialties include fashion and facial skin work, and all forms of photo montages of images. I also enjoy photo restoration, and I even have fun with cartooning. In fact there is very little, if anything, I can't do image-wise.

Acknowledgement

Many of the images and ads you will see on this site (especially the agency work) have been created by a team which would include designers, photographers, art directors to name a few. I haven't mentioned names and the images I have chosen are some of my favourites I have worked on over the past 20+ years. Of course some people don't like it to be known that their images have been retouched (even if it is obvious to experts!). To the best of my knowledge, none of these images are in use on this site. However, if any photographer or agency is no longer happy with an image being used, please let me know and it will be removed. All images are copyright-protected and must not be re-used elsewhere in any form.
